New Tool Released

Published on: August 31, 2026

I've added a new tool to the Downloads page. It's called ABI-Subtitles. It transcribes audiobooks and generates subtitle files that the desktop and mobile apps use for reading along.

The app is a portable executable that runs pretty quickly. It provides the fastest transcription speeds that I've seen on my computer. It does require a modern graphics card if you want good transcription speeds. My computer with a 3090 averages 150x real-time. But when I tested it on my laptop and an old computer, I couldn't get speeds higher than 10x real-time.

It's not what anyone would call a pretty app, but it's getting the job done for me. For books around 8 hours long, it will generate subtitles in 5-10 minutes.

When you first launch the app, you'll need to go into settings and click on button to download the Parakeet model from Hugging Face (~2.4GB). The model downloads to the portable-data folder.

Since the speeds are the best that I've been able to manage on my computer, I also added an optional API server to the app so that I can use it in other apps that require transcription. I doubt many people will utilize that functionality, and it's off by default.
